If Glen Echo Park closes due to inclement weather then the dance will be canceled. For the latest park status info, see http://www.glenechopark.org or call 301-320-2330. The recording is updated at 3:00 pm daily.
Important: the Friday Night Dancers' Dance Development Fund supports dancers, callers, musicians and sound techs in advancing their skills. Support may be requested for just about anything that improves our dance community, such as dance camp scholarships, master classes, dance demonstrations and matching funds for FND community members attending CDSS summer music and dance camps (http://www.cdss.org/programs.html). Send your inquiries about the "Dance Development Fund" to txmilke at aol dot com.

On the joy of contradancing:
- Also read a contra dancer's memoir.
- A very interesting article by Richard Powers on the therapeutic benefits of contra dancing
- And by Sarah Rubin on the "therapeutics" of contra dancing.

The Friday night dances are brought to you by the Friday Night Dancers, Inc (a nonprofit, community-based organization) in cooperation with the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture, the National Park Service, and Montgomery County, MD. Dances are held every Friday evening in historic Spanish Ballroom or Bumper Car Pavilion at Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Boulevard , Glen Echo, Maryland 20812. Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for 17 and under. Open Band nights are free for 17 and under. Contra dance is a type of folk dance for all ages and a social dance in the most literal sense. It is a great way to meet lots of new people and potentially make new friends. You do not need to bring a partner. Bring proper attire.
Dance all evening to top quality live music in an alcohol-free environment. Music may be traditional or modern inspired by folk tunes. For examples of what Contra dance music sounds or looks like, visit Robert Cox's contra podcast page or videos on the GreatContraVideos Channel on YouTube.
Beginners are always welcome! There is a beginner's lesson every Friday from 7:30 pm - 8:15 pm which is included in the price of admission. Beginners learn faster and have a better time when they dance with experienced dancers, rather than other beginners. We encourage beginners to ask Dance Buddies to be their dance partner. Dance Buddies are experienced dancers who enjoy dancing with beginners and who volunteer to help beginners have a fun experience. They are identified by the name tag with a happy face sticker or a button that says “Dance Buddy.” Dancers who wish to be Dance Buddies should inquire at the admission desk.
There is always a Dance Manager on hand every Friday to answer questions and solve problems that arise during the evening. If you need to speak with the manager on duty, ask the person at the admission table to locate the manager or another Board member.
The Friday Night Dancers (FND) is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment and making reasonable accommodation for participants in its activities. FND does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status or sexual orientation in any of its activities or operations. Read our anti-harassment policy.
FND has a "No Dancer Left Behind " policy. If you need a ride to and from the dance at Glen Echo, leave a ride request on the Friday Night Dance Facebook page. If you find yourself at a dance without the means to go back home contact the FND dance manager on duty. An announcement will be made on your behalf.
On the second Friday of each month, the "Fabulous Glen Echo Open Band" provides the music for the dance. Both amateur and professional musicians are welcome to sit in and are admitted free. One of our Open Band members, penny-whistler Jim Stahler, has compiled an 20-year list of tunes and a 2012-2013 tune list played by the Glen Echo Open Band and how many times they were played. Also provided is a list of the most recent played tunes. Newer members are encouraged to download the shorter list of recently played tunes so they can practice the most frequently played ones. Both lists are Word .doc files. Here is a podcast that offers the sets of songs along with the page info in some of the popular books such as the Portland Collection and Fiddlers Fakebook. For more information regarding the open band, check out the Open Band FAQ or send email to Jim Stahler: jstahler at cox dot net. If you would like to play or call for a Friday Night Dance, send email to FND Booking at: fndgigs at petml dot com.
The Friday Night Dancers are accepting applications for volunteers to help out at dance activities and with behind-the-scenes tasks. Applications are available at the desk by the door at every dance or send an email to info at fridaynightdance dot org (copy and paste the address into your email page).

Friday Night Dancers is an all volunteer incorporated organization. To see who is on the board and what they do...
The Friday Night Dancers board is looking for feedback on the performers at our dances. This survey is entirely voluntary (unless you are a board member who attended the dance, in which case you are expected to participate). The feedback helps the Band, the Caller, the Sound Tech, Instructor and Break Activity bookers decide who to book and how often they should be booked. If feedback is provided to the performers it will be in summary form and will not repeat any specific comment made in the survey. If you would be willing to discuss your feedback or comments, you will be able to provide your name and phone number or email address in the survey. Your personal information will not be shared with the performers.
Please only complete this survey if you were actually at the dance. We are looking for feedback on THIS performance - not on how they have performed at previous Glen Echo dances (or elsewhere).
The survey takes 7 clicks to complete. Here is the link: http://questionpro.com/t/AJirnZSvmj
